Mahabharata Arjuna’s Pledge:- The fierce battle of Mahabharata was going on. Arjun had gone away from the battlefield while fighting. In the absence of Arjuna, Dronacharya created Chakravyuh to defeat the Pandavas. Arjuna’s son Abhimanyu entered it to pierce the Chakravyuh.

He skillfully pierced the six feet of the Chakravyuh, but in the seventh stage, he was surrounded by seven masters like Duryodhana, Jayadratha and fell on him. Jayadratha slammed the unarmed Abhimanyu from behind. The blow was so intense that Abhimanyu could not bear it and Veergati was killed. Mahabharata Arjuna’s Pledge

Hearing the news of Abhimanyu’s death, Arjuna went mad with anger. He vowed that if he did not kill Jayadratha before sunset the next day, he would commit self-immolation. Jayadratha, frightened, approached Duryodhana and told about Arjuna’s promise.

Duryodhana removed his fear and said – “Don’t worry, friend! I and the entire Kaurava army will protect you. Arjun will not be able to reach you tomorrow. He will have to commit self-immolation.” The next day the war started.

Arjuna’s eyes were looking for Jayadratha, but he was nowhere to be found. Day started to pass on. Gradually, Arjuna’s despair grew. Seeing this, Shri Krishna said – “Parth! Time is passing and the Kaurava army.

Hearing this, Arjuna got excited and he started fighting with enthusiasm. But to reach till Jaidrath was difficult. It was going to be evening. Then Shri Krishna spread his illusion. As a result, the sun hid in the clouds and the illusion of evening was created. ‘It is evening and now Arjuna will have to commit self-immolation as a promise.’ Thinking this, Jayadratha and Duryodhana jumped with joy. Seeing Arjuna committing self-immolation, Jayadratha came in front of the Kaurava army and started laughing.

Seeing Jayadratha, Shri Krishna said – “Parth! Your enemy is standing in front of you. Pick up your bow and kill him. Look, it’s not sunset yet.” After saying this, he withdrew His illusion. Soon the sun came out of the clouds. Everyone looked up in the sky.

Sun was still shining. Seeing this, the ground slipped under the feet of Jayadratha and Duryodhana. Jayadratha was about to run away but by then Arjuna had picked up his Gandiva.

Then Shri Krishna said with a warning – “O Arjuna! Jayadratha’s father had given him a boon that whoever dropped his head on the ground, his head would also split into a hundred pieces. So if its head falls on the ground, your head will also be broken into a hundred pieces. Hey Partha! Jayadratha’s father is doing penance at a distance of so yojana from here in the north direction. You cut off his head in such a way that he falls in his father’s lap.

Arjuna listened carefully to Krishna’s warning and left the arrow meditating on his target. That arrow severed Jayadratha’s head and took it and fell straight into the lap of Jayadratha’s father. When Jayadratha’s father woke up shocked, his head fell on the ground from his lap. As soon as his head fell on the ground, his head also broke into a hundred pieces. Thus, Arjun’s promise was fulfilled. Mahabharata Arjuna’s Pledge best Mythology Unknown facts.
